The Swedish school organisation in theory and practice

Are you a prinicipal, vice principal or pedagogical staff included in the school management team? This course is specifically targeting school leaders and focuses on how the Swedish school education is organised and managed in theory and practice. The course will highlight some core and current focus areas that are institutionalised and practised in Swedish schools which will cater for reflections and new ideas to be transferred to your own school organisation and its management.

Target groups: Principals, vice principals and pedagogical staff of the school management team.

Participants English language proficency level: At least B1 level in oral communication and reading skills.

Course overview and details

This 5-day course will provide participants with

The course will give participants insight into the Swedish school organisation and some focus areas. The participants will get aquainted with the health and wellbeing support and promotion in school and compare and reflect on this topic from their own organisations perspective. How to create a sustainable working environment in school is another theme of this course. In relation to this topic you will be through specific exercises be trained in how to use the Coaching Approach. Furthermore, the course will focus on how to support student learning. The participants will learn more about executive functions, metacognition and learning strategies such as retrival practice.

To see the above mentioned focus areas in practice and experience the Swedish school organisation in practice the participants will visit a compulory, a general and a VET upper-secondary school linked to the topics of value-based interdisciplinary learning, VET secondary educational programmes and the Case-methodology implemented in a general upper-secondary school.

AI is another current focus area in the Swedish school and participants will learn more about how to make use of AI for learning and for the support of their everyday work.

Finally, the course content will make participants look forward and consider and reflect on visions for a future-creating school!
