Classroom psychology: promoting student learning with cognitive strategies, interpersonal relationships and pedagogical perspectives

Cognitive psychology has contributed to our understanding of learning, but how can these strategies be implemented into teaching practices? You will learn more about the basic research about human memory and learning and how evidence-based strategies can be applied and implemented. Additionally, you will learn more about interpersonal relationships and the importance of these for learning. At the same time you will gain knowledge about different approaches in order to form positive, professional and interpersonal relations with students. The importance of being aware of perspectives will be a starting point, when exploring the outcomes of different perspectives on students, teaching and learning as well as having knowledge about different abilities and functions in connection with a school setting.

Course overview and details

This course is based on a highly participatory approach where the course is not something you take but something you make. You will get a chance to familiarize yourself with some of the findings from cognitive psychology research on learning strategies. Together we will examine and discuss how innovative learning strategies can be implemented in the classroom and how important it is to create positive and interpersonal relationships between teachers and students. Moreover, you will learn more about how different perspectives on students and learning are linked to and affects classroom teaching.
